About
The work of Baker Alvares Scott de Almeida, more widely known as KAANG, explores raw emotion and isolation through the lens of his struggles with Schizophrenia and the shifting realities of the modern world. Fueled by a deep struggle with the unrelenting divergence of his own human condition, KAANG turned his inner turmoil into a desire to “Paint into understanding.” With diverse outside influences such as (but not limited to) Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, Takashi Murakami, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, KAANG portrays abstract and emerging forms through a multimedia style of painting. Many of his recent projects have come to life on recycled materials such as used canvases, found wood and cardboard, adding a layer of unique texture to his distinct style. Through his "schizophrenic inability to cope," KAANG'S art serves as an extension to create a new effervescent paradigm of heightened reality.
